Murilo Pasta, a director, screenwriter, and showrunner based in the United Kingdom, is the first Brazilian filmmaker in history to receive a BAFTA nomination for a work in English. He is also the first non-native English speaker to direct acclaimed British series for the BBC, Sky, Channel 4, and Five. His feature film, Carmo, a co-production between Spain, Poland, the UK, and Brazil, won the audience award at the São Paulo International Film Festival and was selected for Sundance, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.
